Q: What rulebook does JYBSA play by?
A: JYBSA currently plays by TTA and NFHS rules.
Note: Each league may modify certain rules of play to best suit their league goals. Any modified rules should be explained at the plate when the umpires meet with the coaches.
Q: My child has never played softball before, can she still come play at JYBSA?
A: ABSOLUTELY! YES. JYBSA is a recreational youth league and is open to everyone.
Q: What equipment does my child need?
· An approved bat
· Softball fielder’s protective mask (for softball)
· Glove,
· Batting helmet with mask,
· Pair of cleats.
· Pants (color and style will be advised by the coach)
Q: How do I find out what kind of bat and glove to buy? Any suggestions?
A: Equipment can be found by doing a quick google search or going to a local sporting goods store.

Q: What age can my player start playing at the JYBSA?
A: Age Classifications are listed below, when registering online your child's appropriate program will be available for selection.
Coed (Pre-Tee Ball) 3-4
6U- (Tee Ball) 5-6
8U- (Coach Pitch) 7-8
10U-(Kid Pitch) 9-10
12U- 11-12
14U- 13-14
15U (Girls)- 13-15
Q: How are the age divisions determined?
A: (SOFTBALL) The age for a given spring season is determined by the child’s age on or before August 31st of the previous year.
A: (Baseball) The age for a given spring season is determined by the child’s age on or before August 31st of the current year
Q: How much are registration fees?
A: Registration fees are $150 for one player and each additional player, within the same family, will receive a $20 Sibling Discount.
Pre-Tee registration fees are $60 per player, siblings receive a $20 discount.
Q: How can my child “Play Up”
A: Yes, your child may request to “play up”. However, players may be asked to attend a practice with a higher level. Coaches of the higher-level team will then assess the players overall skill level to determine if the player is ready to safely play up and a decision is made with parental consent, commissioner and JYBSA Board approval.
***Please note that all decisions by the JYBSA board are final and there is no appeal process***
Q:What is included with my registration fee?
A: The registration fees provide the funds for uniforms including jersey and socks, tournaments, umpires, softball equipment (catchers gear, balls, tee's etc.), field maintenance, trophies, as well as all other league expenses as they are incurred.
Q: When does the season start and end?
A: Practices will begin Mid-March, with the season going through the end of June. Team specific practice schedules will be discussed at Meet the Coach.
Q: Are there any qualifications for a coach?
A: Coaches are required to pass a Background Check and complete the Abuse Prevention Systems Training Course.
